Role Play for Self Care

Are you a helper, healer, space-holder, or other person who has spent a lot of time caring for others recently? Are you in need of some play & silliness, just for you?

Role Play for Self Care is a non-clinical, non-therapy facilitated support group where members will learn the ShadowDark table top roleplay (TTRPG) system. Over 10 weeks you will create your own character, explore ancient ruins & dungeons to find magic treasure, fight (and win!) against monsters & evil-doers, and build friendships along the way! We will be playing in a High Fantasy setting - think Lord of the Rings, Tress of the Emerald Sea, or The Witcher! 

As your facilitator, I have completed training as a Therapeutic Game Master and look forward to combining my space-holding with my storycraft. My hope is that fellow helpers & healers can show up to sessions to relax, have fun, laugh, and adventure together. I will create the world & offer you opportunities to express yourself and imaginatively overcome personal challenges together. 

This group is very beginner friendly! ShadowDark is very similar to Dungeons & Dragons, but simplified for more accessibility. If you've never played a TTRPG before but wanted to try, here is a great chance! Or, if you're an experienced gamer, you are invited to just show up and relax while someone else runs the show!

The Green Trans Group is a group for transgender & nonbinary adolescents between the ages of 12 - 15 years old.  Our group is designed to be a collaborative, reflective, and enjoyable space where youth come together to be themselves and process their lives. Many trans adolescents don’t have much opportunity (outside of the internet) to connect with other trans folks, and especially to get to talk about tender topics in an intentional container. Topics get selected by the group each week, so the group is both unique and designed around the members’ actual needs. We might talk about transgender representation in music & movies, coming out to friends, challenging negative assumptions about us, and correcting misgendering, among a host of other things. The intention is that clients will be supported in building their authentic self in a room of others who understand how complicated it can be, and also get a sense of friendship & solidarity. 

This group meets in-person from 6:30 - 8 PM on Monday evenings. Group is capped at 8 members to ensure everyone gets space to participate and we can build deeper trust with each other, and members are encouraged to come weekly when enrolled.

Our group name is inspired by the Tarot card pictured to the right. The description reads: "The Green Man is a marker of Spring and the embodiment of new growth. His story aims to inspire and encourage you to get curious. Catalogue each lesson, and enjoy each phase of life. Commit yourself to self-growth. This includes studying the world you live in, acquiring knowledge through experiences that stretch you, permitting your feelings to be felt, and taking time to understand yourself and others.
