I believe no person is inherently bad or permanently broken. Rather, we have learned to survive as best we could in a deeply flawed world. And sometimes our best efforts need new perspective, investigation, or reimagining to evoke a new experience. I invite my clients to use our time together to learn how to feel safe in relationship, how to be authentic, how to practice conflict, and how to come home to yourself. This is not the realm of "quick fixes," but rather lasting inner change. I tend to not focus on worksheets or specific therapeutic scripts, but on the experience we are having together.
While I use a diagnostic & treatment planning process to validate your care through the "Medical model," I approach the therapeutic relationship differently. I believe healing happens best when we approach ourselves as unique beings in context, rather than a person with a disordered brain or cognitive illness. Mental health diagnoses are quite different than physical health ones, and while it makes sense to call an illness like the Flu a biological pathology, many mental health conditions respond well to treatment from a view of "how does this make sense for me in my context? And how can I shape my experience in an affirming and respectful way?"
The "counselor-client fit," or how well you like your therapist, has the strongest influence on beneficial therapy outcomes. My personality and style is not going to be for everyone, and that is okay! This is why I offer an initial free phone consultation, and regularly check in with you about how we're doing together. If I am not your cup of tea, that is totally fine - I can set you up with referrals to other providers who may fit your style better.
Many folks struggling with their mental health find that their world feels flattened, restricted, rigid, or overwhelming. Something you can expect from me is a focus on how you are living your present life, as well as curiosity about past patterns and past experiences. Have you wanted to express your creativity but felt stuck in "Freeze" or perfectionism? Do you value community but struggle to connect with friends? I ask my clients to experiment with their life outside of session, to invite and evoke the things they find meaningful and see how that shapes their mental health experience.

Much of the recent research on autism suggests that many people's autistic presentation was missed in childhood. I offer autism assessment packages for people age 18 and older with verbal capacity, who were not assessed in childhood. This includes an assessment battery and psychoeducation & diagnosis integration sessions, typically spanning 4-6 sessions total. Clients can expect: A diagnosis (or clarity about their experience if they are not autistic), a strengths-based diagnostic write-up, education about their neurotype, and ideas about next steps. See the "Assessments" page for more information.
Services provided by telehealth or in-community meetings
For parents, other providers, allies, and community members, I offer 30-60 minute consultations on my various specialties. If you see something on my site that resonates with a client you work with, a friend you support, or a member of your family, I'm happy to meet with you and offer the knowledge I have built.
